Wine Folly #34Wines34Weeks Challenge: Week 1 - Cava

Yesterday we started the Wine Folly #34Wines34Weeks challenge with a bottle to Cava from Spain. To learn more about the challenge and to get involved, visit this post.

For our first bottle we picked a Cava Reserva.

Avinyó Brut Reserva Cava, 2017

Look: Medium Yellow

Smell: Pear, Lemon , Kiwi, Lavender, general sour or sharp smell.

Taste: Off-dry body with a medium-high acidity. Low to none tannins, no overwhelming taste of alcohol, very light body. Tasted green ripe apple, sweet peach, acid was strong and stung the gums.

Food Pairing (from Vivino): Aperitif, lean fish, cured meat, shellfish, and appetizers and snacks.

Grapes: Xarel-lo, Parellada, Macabeo

Overall: Cava is usually an affordable source for sparkling wine. I went a little above and beyond by grabbing a $19.00 reserve bottle. But at this point, I can't tell the difference from this and a $7.00 bottle of Prosecco.
